In Athens now a days, Tsolias is a soldier that serves in the Presidential Guard. Some of their duties are, guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Most of the times they are selected from the Greek special forces and are therefore skilled fighters too.
The Evzones, or Evzoni today, it refers to the members of the Presidential Guard. The Evzones are also known, colloquially, as Tsoliades.
Generally a tsolias is wearing a modern military uniform based on a traditional Greek guerrilla outfit from the 19th century’s Greek War of Independence.
Dressed with their daily uniforms, they might strike you as “funny” at the beginning, though I ensure you, there’s nothing funny about their clothes and about their “foustanella” (the white kilt they are wearing), which has become a trademark of Athens and Greece worldwide.
